Number Recognition
Number recognition to ten and subsequently twenty is a key part of early maths. To begin with introduce your child to numbers up to five, and when they recognize these, progress to numbers to ten, and beyond.

Simple activities to develop number recognition include:

Creating a hopscotch grid together using chalks to form numbers.

Putting together a large scale foam number puzzle.

Talking about numbers in the environment by mentioning the number bus passing, numbers on houses, car registrations or signage.

Adding a simple number line or wall chart in your child's playroom or bedroom to reinforce number recognition on a daily basis.

Providing magnetic numbers for your child to explore or foam bath numbers.

Offering a range of number puzzles and jigsaws.

Setting up a number hunt in the garden by hiding numbered flashcards or objects.
