Maths Stories
Teaching maths through story is a great way to incorporate numeracy into your child's routine. Children enjoy stories which provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere for learning. As well as developing maths skills, your child will gain a love of books, whilst learning new language patterns and vocabulary.
You can begin reading stories to your child at a very early age, particular books with simple language. For a pre-school child, young toddler or baby you could begin with simple stories, which introduce counting, such as '1, 2, 3 to the Zoo'. Children will often want to listen to a favourite story many times, which is beneficial in reinforcing mathematical language and new vocabulary.
The following stories can be used to teach and reinforce numeracy skills:

An engaging story focusing on counting to ten, with characters, Handa and Akeyo, searching for their grandmother's Black Hen, Mondi.
